Tips on getting those 17 different hub page accolades

Updated on June 21, 2015

The hub pages accolades are a sharp eye catching addition to everyone's profile page. When I first started out on the hub pages I didn't have a clue to what the word accolade even meant. I never said I was the sharpest tack in the box. So I looked it up in the dictionary, and here's what I discovered. The word accolade's first known use was in the year 1623, and it comes to us via French and Italian from the Vulgar Latin word accollãre. An accolade is a mark of acknowledgment - an award or honor, approving and praising mention. Another words it's a pretty good thing! Now not everybody cares for them on their profile, so the hub pages has it set up where you can opt out of showing it for public display. You can simply check a box for this on when you edit your profile. However I really like seeing them, and I'm more then happy to show them off.

Accolade listings :

1. Years on the hub pages - You automatically receive this accolade for the number of years that you've been writing on the hub pages. There's only one catch, and that is you have to have a published hub to qualify for this award. You might not think this is a big deal, but not everybody here on the hub pages has published hubs. You get one of these accolades for 1,2,3,4,5, and hitting the 10 year mark. So far the hub pages hasn't been in existence for 10 years, so you won't find any of those out there.

2. Followers - You pick up this accolade as fellow hubbers start following your writing here on the hub pages. A lot of times people will follow you back after you follow them. Your profile will suffer some if you follow too many people. This will happen usually when you start following thousands of people. However if someone is kind enough to follow me, I will always be courteous enough to follow them in return. You will see this accolade appear when you have 100, 300, 500, 1000, 2000, 5,000, and 10,000 followers. I don't think there is anyone who has 10,000 followers out there yet.

3. Hubs - This accolade is awarded for the number of hubs you have written and published. It's real simple, and when you write enough you'll receive one of these nice shinny accolades for all of your hard work. You'll get one of these accolades when you complete writing 10, 50, 100, 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, and 10,000 hubs.

4. Hub views - This accolade is awarded when someone views your hub. It's automatically calculated up by the hub page computer servers. So there's absolutely nothing else you need to do than write good material that others will want to visit and read. You'll get this accolade when you receive 1,000, 10,000, 100,000, 1,000,000, 10,000,000, and 100,000,000 hub views.

5. Questions answered - You'll get this accolade by simply answering questions in a full sentence that other hubbers ask here on the hub pages. Just go to the question and answer section of the hub pages, and answer questions that fellow hubbers have asked. You might really be able to help someone out. I remember one time someone had a really bad tooth ache on a holiday weekend when all of the dentist offices were closed, and needed pain relief fast. So I answered it and recommended "oil of clove" until they could make it to the the dentist. They were very thankful. I also try to answer questions that haven't been answered yet. You'll get this accolade when you have answered 10, 50, 100, 300, 500, and 1,000 questions. (If you are new to the hub pages, and you want an accolade to spice up your profile page, then this is the accolade for you!)

6. Questions made - You'll pick up this accolade when you personally write and ask questions of your fellow hubbers that inspire the creation of answers. The better the question you ask, then the more answers you'll get in return. It's another fairly easy accolade to get when you are first starting out here at the hub pages. You will get this accolade for every 50, 100, 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, and 10,000 questions which you wrote that you receive answers for. Remember you might only get one answer for one question you ask, but for another question you might receive 49 reply's. Between those two questions you picked up this accolade, so it just depends on the type of questions to determine how many you'll need to ask to acquire this accolade.

7. Great Commenter - You'll see this accolade appear when you leave engaging and insightful comments on others' Hubs. There are 8 different levels to this accolade, which are displayed in Roman numerals. It all depends on the amount of comments that you contribute to hubs on the hub pages. This is also one of the accolades that will disappear from your accolade collection, when you slow down on leaving comments. So don't be shocked if one day you wake up, and this accolade is missing.

8. Engaging Writer - This accolade is awarded to those hubbers who write particularly engaging Hubs which visitors love to read from start to finish. This is one of those accolades you pick up the longer you are here on the hub pages.

9. Great Hub Pages Citizen - You'll get this accolade when you contribute to the community by helping new hubbers in the forums, voting and or flagging inappropriate content for the moderators. This is another accolade that you will pick up over time while you are here on the hub pages.

10. Popular - You'll receive this accolade when hubs that you've written are popular among your readers. The servers at the hub pages measure this by the feedback you are receiving to your hubs. This is where the "vote up" and "vote down" buttons come largely into play. This is why you'll find some folks asking you to vote up their hub, and as far as I can see there's nothing wrong with asking.

11. Great Discussion Starter - You will pick up this accolade when your hubs have great discussions in your hub's comment section. You have a greater chance of getting this accolade with more interactive hubs. Writting hubs which ask questions of your visitors will certainly help promote this type of activity.

12. Hub of the Day Winner - You'll receive this accolade when you've had an exemplary Hub presented before the hub pages community and featured on the hub pages homepage. This has been an accolade that's always eluded me. I guess it's like being an astronaut - you have to have the right stuff. Maybe this accolades for you!

13. HubNugget Winner - Now this is my favorite accolade. I was humbled to have received this award on February 2nd 2011 for my hub - "Ghostly Places". I wasn't even aware about the existence of this accolade until after I received it. This accolade is awarded to a new hubber who was a nominee and winner in the weekly "HubNuggets" contest. The actual accolade was designed and introduced sometime after I actually won it, and the hub pages went back and tacked it onto all of the past winners. It not only takes a good subject matter in a hub to be considered for a nominee, but you also must be within your first 90 days here at the hub pages. Once nominated, the hubs are voted on by fellow hubbers. The three hubs with the most votes in each category are the winners of this accolade. So if you are new to the hub pages then this accolade might be right down your alley.

14. Hubbie Award Winner - This is the grand daddy of all accolades on the hub pages. This accolade is awarded to hubbers worthy of acclaim and infamy. To win a Hubbie Award, you must be selected annually by the community. The key word here is the community, and not the hub page staff. We select the Hubbie Award Winners, which makes this honor even more special. This accolade and award has only been handed out one time so far. That was on the 5th anniversary of the hub pages. There were a total of 26 different categories for the Hubbie Awards, and so far to this date there have only been 32 Hubbie Awards handed out to the hub page's brightest. This is everyone's dream here at the hub pages, and good luck to all of you!

15. Best Answers - This is the 15th hub page accolade, and to receive this milestone achievement on the hub pages it works like this - The hubber who asked a particular question on the hub pages, can choose the best answer from all of the replies. They are only allowed to select one best answer, and once that is done the decision can't be reversed. Once you've been selected as the hubber having the best answer ten different times or more, you'll receive an accolade for this achievement. You will get this accolade for every 10, 50, 100, 300, 500, and 1,000 times that your answer is selected as the best answer for a question. Good luck, and answer wisely.

16. Featured Hubs - This is actually one of the easiest accolades to get here on the hub pages. You'll receive this new accolade when you have a certain number of simultaneously featured hubs here on the Hub Pages. You will get this accolade for every 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000, and 5,000 of your featured hubs, here at the Hub Pages. This is actually one of the better looking accolades here at the Hub Pages with a little blue bull horn pictured.

17. Editor’s Choice accolade - This is the 17th, and the newest accolade created by the hub pages. the Editor's Choice accolade will be displayed on your Profile Page along with all of your other Hub Pages accolades when you attain five or more Editor's Choice Hubs. The Hub Pages even admits that this is not an easy accolade to earn, and a congratulations is well deserving to those hubbers who receive this hard to get accolade.

This was an overview of all 17 of the accolades which the hub pages award to their best. To see the actual photographs, visit the FAQ section of the hub pages. It really wasn't possible to display any good pictures of the actual accolades on this hub for you all to look at. I hope this hub helps both explain the accolades to everyone, and helps some of the newcomers here at the hub pages get their very own accolades! The place to start for everyone wanting an accolade is by simply answering 10 questions from other hubbers!
